Booked tickets because of Matthew Broderick without knowing much about the play. I quite enjoyed it but thought it was too long - could have been cut by half an hour. Good performances from the actors.

It's very risky to write and put on a play about an exceedingly boring person, and - although there were moments which were very ironic or very funny, and moments of great poignancy and grief - there were probably not really enough variations of tone overall to contrast with the generally grey and downbeat tone. Having said this, Matthew Broderick's ability to play such a boring character cannot be praised too much - and Rosalind Eleazar as his opposite number is equally beyond praise. Why she should not be sharing top billing on your adverts instead of the dire Elizabeth McGovern is a mystery. The set was delightful; the chap in hospital was brilliant; parts of the whole were really enjoyable. However, it's not really a play which any of the six of us who went to it could recommend, and the 4 star value-for-money rating I've given is based on the fact that we had reduced £28 seats.
